- Meet Rubi. Our red fox with the gold bell. Rubi says hello when you first open Rubrica and shows you around until you have a companion of your own. Rubrica is the name. Rubi is fine too.
- Try it on first. In the dressing room your companion wears a hat before you buy it.
- One sound button. Rain, a stream or a fireplace, from the reader and the timer.
- Audiobook time counts when you log it.

- Hide and seek. After you read, your companion hides in its room. Find it for a little gold leaf.
- Tricks. A spin at level 5, a bow at 15, a flip at 30. Tap your companion and see.
- New rooms. A treehouse after three finished books, a lighthouse after ten.
- Biscuits. Every quest you collect is a biscuit to hand over.
- Catch the leaves. A few in every shower of gold leaf can be caught.
- Shelve it yourself. Drag a finished book up to the shelf. Its keepsake matches the story.
- A dressing room. Your companion stays in view while you dress it. Tap its head for hats.
- A place to decorate. Your room stays in view while you change it. Tap the window to pick a new one.
- Your companion tells you when it learns something new. Today's minutes and your streak sit under its name.
- Finishing a book. It gets its own moment: what it took, your stars, and a line to remember it by.
- Bedtime reading. Pick 15, 30 or 45 minutes. The room dims, and the clock stops itself when it's time.
- Rain in the reader. Rain, a stream or a fireplace while you read an ebook, from the top of the page.
- Reading together. Your household's week, side by side. Not a race.
- A diary, kept by your companion. A line for every day you read, in its own words.
- Books this year. Set a number on Stats and watch it fill.
- Getting to know you. Seven small things to try, and a gift when you've done them.
- Reminders now come from your companion.
- Your companion knows you. It has its own temper, remembers your book and how long you've been together, and says so. Hold a finger on the room and it watches.
- See who's reading. A green dot by friends who are online, and what they're reading. Off until you switch it on, and only between friends who both do.
- Left the timer running? You can fix the minutes before you save, or not save at all.
- If the app closes while you're reading, your time is waiting on the first screen when you come back.
- Friends now see today's minutes when you read on paper or an e-reader.
September 28, 2026
- Read with your companion. Tap Read and it opens its own book. The lamp fills while the clock runs, locked phone or not, and when you're done it asks where you got to.
- Something to read to. Rain, a stream or a fireplace, while the app is open.
- It gets around. Your companion potters about its room, walks over when you tap the floor, goes to look out the window, and stops for tea or a biscuit. Hold it for a cuddle.
- The Nook is home. The app opens on your companion's room.
- The room keeps your hours. Sunset, dusk and stars in the window, and the season outside.
- Collect your quests. Tap a finished quest and the gold leaf rains down. Forget, and it lands by itself the next day.
- A first read. Your first sitting with each companion gets a little moment of its own.
- New art. All eighteen companions redrawn with light, shade and their own details.
- Friends drop by. Friends show up as their companions, and visitors stand in your room until you wave them off.
- Share growing up. When your companion grows, there's a card to send.
- Hats and other things you own can't go missing between two phones any more.

- Companion levels, 1 to 50. Each companion levels up on its own from the reading you do together. The switch screen shows every one with its level, like a collection, with frames at 10, 25, 40 and 50, and collection goals that leave gift boxes.
- Growing up. When your companion reaches 10, 25 or 40 it grows, and the moment gets the whole screen.
- Their own name, coat and outfit. Switching brings back each companion exactly as you left it.
- Three quests a day and a weekly chest for reading five days out of seven.
- Finds. Every 15 minutes of a session can turn up gold leaf, something for the Nook or to wear, or a gift box.
- A free event every month, starting with an acorn cap this week and a jack-o'-lantern in October.
- Streak gear at 7, 30, 100 and 365 days.
- Reading together. One weekly goal you fill with your friends.
- Morning postcards and a Sunday recap, each with its own switch.
- Book search on the web now works in Safari and Firefox.
Everything above is free and earned by reading. Nothing random is ever sold.

- An upstairs. Your companion has a loft now, up a ladder from the Nook: a round window, a skylight with its own weather, and a cushion where it sleeps at night with the real moon in the window. Friends who visit at night find it up there.
