Common questions
How do I add a book I'm reading on paper?
Tap + on the Library, search for the title or scan its barcode, and pick paper, ebook or audio. Then tap Read to sit down with your companion and start the timer, or use the pen to jot down your minutes after.
How do I open an ebook I own?
Tap + and choose Open an ebook file you own, or open the file with Rubrica from Files, Mail or your browser. DRM-free EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, FB2 and CBZ files work.
Why won't my ebook open?
Books bought inside another store's app are usually locked to that app with DRM, and Rubrica can't open those. You can still add the book by title and track your reading.
Does the timer keep running when my phone is locked?
Yes. It shows on your lock screen, and on iPhone in the Dynamic Island. You can pause or stop it from there.
How do I bring in my Goodreads or StoryGraph history?
Export your library as a CSV from the other app, then in Rubrica go to Me › Your books › Bring your history in. Shelves, ratings and dates come across, and covers fill themselves in.
How do companion levels work?
Each companion levels up on its own, from 1 to 50, from the reading you do while it's the one out. Switching never loses anything: each one keeps its level, name, coat and outfit. It grows at levels 10, 25 and 40, and 50 gets a gold frame.
What are the daily quests?
Three small things to do each day, all of them reading, like "read twice today" or "finish a chapter". Tap a finished one to collect its gold leaf (if you forget, it lands by itself the next day), and collecting all three leaves a gift box. Read on five days in a week (Monday to Sunday) and the weekly chest opens too.
What are finds?
Every 15 minutes of a reading session is a small roll for a find: usually a pinch of gold leaf, sometimes something for the Nook or to wear, now and then a whole gift box. They show up on the screen after you finish reading.
What's the monthly event?
Each month has something to earn by reading a set number of hours that month, like a jack-o'-lantern in October. It's free, it's yours to keep, and it's never sold or put in a gift box.
Can I turn off the postcard or Sunday notifications?
Yes, in Me › App: Morning postcards and Sunday recap each have a switch. Neither is ever sent while you're reading.
What does an account do?
It keeps your library, notes and stats in sync across your phones and tablets, and it turns on Friends. Book files stay on your phone. You never need one to read or track.
How do Friends work?
Each of you gets a private friend code. Swap codes, and you can see each other's shelves and whatever else you choose to share. There's no public feed, no likes and no strangers. From a friend's page you can remove, block or report them.
How do I restore Pro on a new phone?
Open Me › Get Pro and tap Restore a purchase, signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account you bought it with.
How do I cancel Pro?
Subscriptions are managed by your store. On iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. On Android: Google Play › your profile › Payments and subscriptions. Pro stays on until the end of what you paid for.
How do I back up my library?
Me › Your books › Back up and restore saves everything to a file you keep. Signing in also keeps a synced copy.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, Me › Account › Delete account. You can also read how it works or email us.
Still stuck?
